Loom with a View: Intro to Weaving Workshop

Join us at Ginger Twist Studio for a three-hour dive into the wonderful world of weaving. It’s tactile, it’s colorful, and it’s surprisingly addictive.

In this workshop, we’re ditching the "rules" and playing with texture. You’ll learn how to set up your loom, master the "over-under" magic of plain weave, and play with color transitions.

The Deets:

  • When: Sunday, 13 September | 4:30pm – 7:30pm
  • Where: Ginger Twist Studio, 60 Montrose Terrace, Edinburgh
  • The Best Part: You get your very own small frame loom to take home and keep the creative momentum going.

What You’ll Master:

  • Warping: The foundational "skeleton" of your weave.
  • The Basics: Casting on, casting off, and steady plain weaving.
  • Artistic Flair: Mixing textures and colors to create a unique wall hanging.
You’ll also get to try the following techniques
  • Rya knots
  • Rosengang
  • Braid weave
  • Pile weave
All materials included; yarn for the warp and weft, a small frame loom & tools to take home, as well as a glass of fizz and nibbles. By the end you’ll have the equipment and skills to keep weaving at home. Just book in and bring yourself!
Your instructor Morag has been working with textiles for over ten years. She studied Textile Design at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, and later specialised in weaving at Sätergläntan, a craft school located in a Swedish forest in Dalarna. Her work is all about colour and texture, exploring vibrant hues through both dyeing and weaving. She loves experimenting, playing with materials, and discovering new ways to bring colour and surface to life.
Please note that workshops and events are non refundable or exchangeable once your spot is booked.
