CROCHET GRANNY SQUARE WORKSHOP :: 16 May

Join our teacher Vala in person for an afternoon of crochet, chats, tea & cake on Saturday 16 May 2026 at 1pm - 4pm.

Discover why crochet becomes such a joyful obsession! This workshop welcomes both those brushing up on forgotten skills and anyone with a little crochet experience under their belt. We'll guide you through the essential techniques that form the backbone of this wonderfully meditative craft. Whether you're returning after a break or building on what you already know, you'll leave with renewed confidence and the tools to create beautiful projects that'll keep you happily hooked for years to come.

  • Explore and experiment with different ways to hold your hook and yarn
  • Learn to make crochet chains
  • Learn and practice two basic stitches you’ll need to begin your crochet journey
  • Begin making a granny square
  • We will consider the importance of tension and using different weights of yarn

The workshops are 4 people maximum, so book along with a pal if you fancy!

Materials included in your kit:

  • 5.0mm crochet hook
  • 6 balls of Aran weight 100% wool (in 3 contrasting shades)
  • darning needle

Skills required: Beginners are welcome, but the learning curve is high. It is helpful if you are already familiar with how to hold the hook and yarn. Refreshers too, if you are feeling a wee bit rusty and want to get started again.

And if you don't see anything you fancy kit-wise, please get in touch and we can put together something to suit your taste. Whichever kit you choose will be waiting for you at the workshop, and it is everything you need.

Master the timeless granny square and unlock endless creative possibilities for your crochet projects. This beloved motif works beautifully in blankets, cushions, bags, and beyond, adding wonderful colour and texture to your makes. Perfect for early stages crocheters, learning this fundamental technique gives you a solid foundation in crochet basics. Best of all? Mistakes are simply opportunities to unravel and try again – so embrace the process, have fun, and let your creativity flow.

The workshop  will be held at an adorable cafe and wine bar around the corner from the shop called The Tailor. A cuppa and bit of cake is included with the workshop. There are a couple of steps up to the back room and toilet, so please get in touch if you have mobility concerns.
