Overcome your knitting fears and unlock a world of circular colorwork! Steeking—the art of cutting your finished knitting—is a game-changing technique. It is most commonly used in Fair Isle and stranded colorwork to knit a seamless tube in the round, which you then cut open to create cardigans, armholes, or necklines.
This hands-on workshop takes the intimidation out of the process, giving you the perfect, supportive environment to practice this vital skill.
Saturday 24 October 2026 at 1pm - 3pm
You will be sent yarn and instructions to knit your mini tube ahead of class and then during the workshop we will pick up for 'button bands', prepare and the cut open your swatch. We will talk about and look at different ways to secure your work as well as the uses of this technique.
An ideal way to practise what can be thought of as a daunting knitting skill!
Skills required: You should be able to knit, purl, knit stranded colour work and work in a small circumference confidently.
2 x 25 g balls Shetland jumper weight wool in contrasting colours are included in your tuition fee, and will be posted to you after booking, along with instructions so you can complete your homework tube before the workshop takes place.
You will need (not included):
- 3.5 mm needles suitable for knitting a small circumference (ie. mini circulars, DPNs or an 80cm+ long circular needle for magic loop)

The workshop takes place in a cosy cafe just round the corner from the shop. Your tuition includes a cuppa and bit of cake, along with wool for the workshop (2 balls of Jamieson & Smith Shetland Wool).
